TRAFFIC SAFETY INVESTIGATION (TSI) PROCEDURES

Procedures for Traffic Safety Investigation requests have changed in 2022. In an email to the Commission on February 26, 2022, Commissioner Zeldin (SMD-03) says,

The attached flyer outlines the current Traffic Safety Inspection process.

Please note that ANC approval has been eliminated from the front end of the process. Any resident can submit a TSI request and it will trigger an investigation. No ANC notice or approval is required. On the back end, the requestor and the ANC Commissioner for that district are supposed to be notified if a TSI is approved. The  community then has 10 days to offer its view point.

Below is a note elaborating on this new process by the DDOT Community Representative.

“Between Steps 4 and 5 is where a 10-day notification is supposed to be sent to the respective SMD commissioner informing them whatever safety change our team warranted.

Once sent, interested residents can email me at [email protected] to express their thoughts in favor or in opposition. If I receive any opposition for humps, I will relay this to the safety team who will then perform a re-evaluation to include a data study. If the data notes speeding is present, DDOT will move forward with any speed humps in the interest of public safety. Any other changes to parking or changes to traffic configuration would require the Notice of Intent (NOI) process which gives the community 30 business days to provide comments before a change is made.

Don’t hesitate to reach out should you have any additional questions”.
